Rockin Y Ranch BBQ was born from a legacy that started long before the first brisket hit the smoker. Founder Bret Young grew up surrounded by the kind of food and family traditions that shape a person for life - the kind that begin in a tiny Bay Area kitchen with a Sicilian grandmother who came through Ellis Island with nothing but grit, recipes, and a determination to feed the people she loved.

In that small San Francisco house, she raised eight children and cooked for an entire neighborhood. Her homemade ravioli, simmering sauces, and fresh pasta weren't just meals - they were gatherings. Cousins packed shoulder‐to‐shoulder, laughter spilling into the hallway, and the smell of real food filling every corner. Bret lived for those days. They taught him that great food is how families stay connected, and that cooking is an act of love.

As he grew older, Bret worked as a cook in a restaurant before becoming an engineer - but the pull of the kitchen never left. He still makes pasta from scratch, using the very pot his grandmother passed down to him. But over time, one passion took over everything else: BBQ.

Bret became obsessed with the craft. He studied smoking techniques, took classes from award‐winning pitmasters, and spent years fine‐tuning his palate. When he couldn't find the perfect seasoning, he started mixing his own - experimenting late into the night until the flavors finally matched the vision in his head.

His first blend, Rancher's Rub, wasn't created for a business. It was created for people he cared about. Bret bottled it in little mason jars and gave it away as Christmas gifts. Then something happened - friends started coming back for refills. Then they asked for extra jars. Then they asked if he could make more.

That's when Bret realized he wasn't just making seasoning.

He was bottling the same feeling he grew up with - family, flavor, and connection.
